The Hybrids
Telepathy and mind control were obviously not the first thing the genetic engineers created. They’d been at work on projects intended to improve humankind for decades. One of those was a method to grow organs for transplant into people who needed them. New lungs for lung cancer victims, new hearts, the list went on.
Pigs were the animals best suited as a base for this. Splicing human and pig DNA made it possible to grow these organs and save human lives.
(Note: That line is some of the hardest science in this fictional universe. That is literally happening today.)
Unfortunately, as Dr. Ian Malcom once observed in Jurassic Park, “Life finds a way.”
The pig-human hybrids that grew out of the splicing horrified their creators. Nearly ten feet tall, with snouts and tusks instead of a normal human face, they gave every impression of pure, animal nature. Except they weren’t. The brain was almost entirely homo sapien. They could think. They could plan.
They could fight. The Archons enlisted the hybrids into their ranks in the Gene War.
The most horrifying thing about the hybrids was their diet. Have you ever wondered why so many religions refer to pigs as unclean animals? It’s because they eat anything.
The pig-human hybrids came to be the most feared force on the battlefields of the Gene War.
